Description:
Za'atar refers on the one hand to an herb native to the eastern Mediterranean, and on the other hand to the popular seasoning for flatbread and meat. The plant is native to Crete, Turkey, Israel and Libya. The thyme species has a sweet-smoky aroma and goes perfectly with grilled meats, oriental vegetables and salads.
Za'atar is also the name given to various species of oregano and thyme, as well as savory and hyssop in the Arab world.
Usage:
Add in the last third of the preparation. Grind between the fingers.

Pita bread with za'atar (manakeesh bi zaatar), za'atar-wu-zayt.
